چکیده

Broadband satellite access (BSA) systems can form an alternative path for the provision of Internet access in areas with poor network infrastructure. The DVB-RCS standard introduced the specifications of an interaction channel for two-way BSA networks. In this study, a new dynamic scheduling strategy for the interaction channel of GEO satellite networks is proposed, evaluated and compared with a typical Round Robin scheme. The main idea of the proposed strategy is to change, prior to each allocation, the sequence according to which bandwidth is assigned to the satellite terminals. The new sequence is fully specified by a set of fairness indices, each one related to a unique terminal and updated after each allocation. Along with the examined scheduling strategies, two capacity request calculation techniques found in the literature are also evaluated and compared through a series of simulations. QoS Architecture over DVB-RCS satellite networks in a NGN framework

Geostationary satellite networks are currently considered as one of the most promising broadband access network technology for narrowing the digital divide. Though technically attractive and cost effective, the provisioning of endto-end QoS services in satellite access remains largely undefined. In order to bridge this gap, the European SATIP6 project defines a complete QoS architecture involvi...

Bandwidth Estimation and Optimisation in Rain Faded Dvb-rcs Networks

Broadband satellite communication networks operating at Ka band (20-30 GHz) play a very important role in today’s worldwide telecommunication infrastructure. The problem, however, is that rain can be the most dominant impairment factor for radio propagation in these frequency bands. Allocating frequency bandwidth based on the worst-case rain fading leads to the waste of the frequency spectrum d...

TCP behavior in a DVB-RCS environment

In 2000, ETSI has approved and published a standard for interactive broadband satellite services (DVB-RCS) . One of the most important features of this standard is the implementation of DAMA strategies aiming at a fair and efficient use of the shared resources in the satellite return channel. A DAMA scheme introduces a new control loop, based on a signaling exchange between STs and the NCC, ins...
